Benjamin Mendy is suing Manchester City for the following reasons:
- Unpaid Salary: He is seeking Sh2 billion – in unpaid salary covering August 2021 to June 2023.
- Acquittal: In July, he was acquitted of rape and sexual abuse charges involving four women.
- End of Contract: His contract ended after the 2022-23 season, leading to his departure.
- Financial Distress: To avoid bankruptcy, he had to sell his Sh2 billion mansion and faces Sh146 million in unpaid taxes.
- Manchester City’s Obligation: His accountant argues that Manchester City should pay his wages due to his acquittal.
Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy is suing his former club for Sh2 billion in unpaid wages from August 2021 to June 2023.
In July, Mendy was acquitted of six charges of rape and one count of sexual abuse involving four women. The alleged incidents occurred between October 2018 and August 2021.
Mendy left Manchester City after his contract expired in the 2022–23 season and joined French Ligue 1 team FC Lorient.
To prevent bankruptcy, Mendy sold his KSh2 billion mansion and faces Sh146 million in unpaid taxes. He is also under a bankruptcy order from the English revenue department, with the hearing postponed to October 4.
Mendy’s accountant claims Manchester City owes him unpaid wages due to his acquittal.
Mendy commented,
We are talking to City to get the unpaid wages.”
In 2017, Mendy left French club Monaco for Sh9.5 billion, marking a record for the highest transfer fee for a defender. He had a six-year contract with a base salary of £100,000 per week plus potential bonuses.
