Telegram‘s updated privacy policy now allows the company to share users’ phone numbers and IP addresses with authorities if a valid judicial request is made and the user is suspected of criminal activities that violate the platform’s terms.
This change follows the recent arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, with the company aiming to prevent the misuse of its search feature for illegal purposes.
Durov emphasized that Telegram will cooperate with legal requests to maintain the platform’s integrity for its nearly one billion users.
Telegram is making these changes to deter criminals from abusing the app’s search function.
We’ve made it clear that the IP addresses and phone numbers of those who violate our rules can be disclosed to relevant authorities in response to valid legal requests,
We won’t let bad actors jeopardize the integrity of our platform for almost a billion users.”
