Tecra Muigai’s family has shared their story, recounting their last moments with her in the new local investigative series, ‘The Last Door’ by John Allan Namu on DSTV.
Tecra died on May 2, 2020, at a Nairobi hospital while undergoing treatment. It is believed she died after she fell down the stairs at Jaha House, a hotel in Shela, Lamu.
In the documentary, her sister Anerlisa Muigai has talked about the changes she noticed with her sister, who sadly before her tragic death was on the verge of setting up a multi million coffee business.
Anerlisa said that the changes with her sister were so obvious such that at one time during an event, she cried because of how ungroomed Tecra looked.

I couldn’t believe she was my sister. This is when she had started dating that man.”

Her mother Mrs Karanja said that on multiple occasions she did not want to believe that her daughter was in love with Lali. She always felt that there was something wrong. She had fears about what could happen to Tecra, she began praying for her.
I kept praying about this, it troubled me a lot because I saw my child turn into someone I didn’t know. I talked to God because I feared losing my child,”

Omar Lali for his part insisted that he truly loved Tecra and her family and that her death was an accident that happened as he slept and he do not have a hand in it.
Nilipokua nimelala nikaskia tu sauti, followed by one shout, and then silence took over. Waking up, I did not find Tecra in our room, only to find her lying unconscious downstairs,”

Anerlisa said her sibling once showed her a large burn wound which she said was allegedly caused by Lali using a hot iron box.
