On March 31st, a large number of South Africans took to the streets in Pretoria and Cape Town to protest against Uganda’s recent ban on the LGBTQ+ community.
The demonstrators urged Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni, not to approve the controversial law.
The protest in Pretoria, held outside the United Nations Information Centre, attracted around 100 participants, according to Reuters.
Among the protesters was Papa De DeLovie Kwagala, a Ugandan LGBTQ rights activist.
The bill has been condemned by human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, which has criticized it for institutionalizing discrimination and prejudice against LGBTQ+ individuals and blocking the legitimate work of civil society and public health professionals.
