Rachel Ikumelo, the sister of the late Rebecca Ikumelo, has expressed strong criticism towards Nigerian music sensation Asake for his tribute during his recent concert at London’s O2 Arena.
The incident dates back to December 2022 when both Rebecca Ikumelo and security guard Gabrielle Hutchinson tragically lost their lives in a stampede at a show hosted by Asake.
Prior to the commencement of Asake’s O2 Arena concert on Sunday, he paid homage to Ikumelo and Hutchinson by projecting images and videos of them, urging anyone with pertinent information about the incident to come forward to the authorities.
However, Rachel, Rebecca’s sister, found the tribute to be inadequate and characterized it as an insincere gesture.

She noted that despite the tragic loss of her sister at his show, Asake had not communicated with any of her family members since the incident occurred.
Rachel took to social media to express her disappointment, stating,
Asake, What a poor excuse for a ‘tribute.’
My sister lost her life at your show, and you haven’t reached out to a single member of my family since.
Yet, you can proceed to hold another concert in London not even 9 months later and showcase her videos as a ‘tribute’? Rest in peace, Rebecca Ikumelo.”
Some, reminded Rachel in the comments section of her post that the singer had indeed contacted the family.
They referenced a statement he had released after the tragic incident, where he expressed his devastation and condolences to Rebecca Ikumelo’s loved ones.
