Sean “Diddy” Combs, has been arrested in New York after being indicted by a federal grand jury.
While the details of the charges remain sealed, a source familiar with the case told The New York Times that the indictment is likely connected to allegations of racketeering and sex trafficking.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York has not provided any comment on the charges.
However, Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, expressed dismay at the prosecution, describing it as “unjust.”
In a statement to Pitchfork, Agnifilo said,
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist… He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal.”
The statement added that Combs had voluntarily relocated to New York last week, cooperating with the investigation in anticipation of the charges.
This development follows a series of legal actions against Combs, including five sexual assault lawsuits and three sexual misconduct cases, which he has consistently denied.
Earlier this year, federal agents raided his homes in Los Angeles and Miami Beach, and confiscated his electronic devices during a stop at a Miami airport.
According to sources, prosecutors had already been interviewing witnesses regarding sexual misconduct allegations.
Diddy maintains his innocence and looks forward to clearing his name in court.
