The Recording Academy has announced the addition of three new categories for the 2024 GRAMMY Awards.

Genge is a unique urban music style that emerged in the early 2000s, known for its fusion of hip-hop, dancehall, and traditional Kenyan music elements.
It features rhythmic beats, catchy hooks, and often incorporates Swahili lyrics, reflecting the local cultural and linguistic influences.
Artists such as Jua Cali, Nonini, and Mejja have been prominent figures in the Genge music scene, contributing to its popularity both within Kenya and beyond.
Best Pop Dance Recording will honor up-tempo, danceable tracks with a pop arrangement, featuring strong rhythmic beats and significant electronic-based instruments.
Finally, the Best Alternative Jazz Album category acknowledges artistic excellence in jazz albums that blend the genre with other musical styles, including R&B, Hip-Hop, Classical, and Electronic/Dance music. These new categories aim to provide recognition to a diverse range of musical talent and genres.
