Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that midfielder Rodri will be sidelined for “a long time” due to a knee injury, with the severity yet to be determined.
After Rodri was substituted in the 21st minute of the recent 2-2 draw against Arsenal, he underwent initial tests in Spain but further evaluations are needed to ascertain the extent of the injury.
Guardiola stated that while one doctor indicated a significant injury, another suggested it might not be as severe.
Rodri, a key player in City’s recent successes, including the Euro 2024 championship is regarded as irreplaceable by Guardiola, who plans to find alternatives in his absence.
Rodri had recently expressed his desire to win the Ballon d’Or and had just returned from a hamstring injury.
