During the Azimio La Umoja protests in Kapsoit centre, Kericho County, NTV reporter Winnie Chepkemoi was attacked and injured by a group of thugs while carrying out her duty.
Chepkemoi rushed to the scene of the protests as soon as they started in the afternoon.
Upon arrival, she witnessed the gang searching cars and checking identification cards to ensure that only local residents were using the route.
Chepkemoi attempted to identify herself as a journalist, but the rowdy youths harassed her, causing her to fall and injure herself.
While I was still capturing the scene, I heard the rowdy youths saying that I was one of the enemies,
One man asked, ‘Who are you?’”

She was eventually taken to Siloam Hospital in Kericho town for treatment. The matter was reported to Kapsoit Police Station.
The protests that took place on Monday resulted in significant damage to property and physical harm to the protesters.
Several businesses were looted, some buildings were set on fire, and apart from Winnie Chepkemoi, other journalists from different media organizations were also subjected to attacks.
