I’ve learned acting through practice. In my early school years I used to perform Solo verses, skits and took part in choral verses. Performing theatre has also played a big part in shaping my talent. Right after I graduated from high school, I was privileged to join planets theatre and festival of creative arts where I continued to nurture my talent and then shortly after I got into TV advertisements and Acting In Tv programs.
Q. TAKE ON KENYAN FILM INDUSTRY?
A. Comparing to where we were years back, we are at a good place. There’s a strong presence of Kenyan content on Maisha Magic plus, Netflix and the quality coming out is international quality.
Q. WHAT MAJOR DIFFERENCES ARE THERE BETWEEN KENYA AND NIGERIA IN TERMS OF FILM PRODUCTION AND CONTENT?
A. Nollywood if you compare with Kenya produce lots of movies. volumes make a big difference. if you go to Netflix there are like 100 different movies from Nollywood. When you look for Kenyan movies you find just a handful of them.
We are also lacking in consumption. Kenyans prefer to watch other movies other than our own Kenyan productions. Kenyans will go to Netflix and look for a Hollywood movie instead of watching local content. Kenyans have a mindset that whatever comes from outside is better. and if we don’t change that mindset and support our own industry this industry will never grow.
