Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, known by his stage name Burna Boy and celebrated for his Grammy-winning status, has expressed his frustration over the tendency of many Nigerians to undervalue him in comparison to American artists.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Burna Boy candidly shared his observation that his unique vocal style and manner of speech often lead Nigerians to believe he is inferior to American artists.
He highlighted that this perception arises because he doesn’t conform to the linguistic patterns commonly associated with American performers.

Reiterating his stature as the “African Giant,” Burna Boy emphasized that his upcoming album, titled “I Told Them…,” serves as his tongue-in-cheek response to critics who have aimed to undermine his credibility throughout his career journey.
This applies to both his early days and the present.
He remarked,

Even today, there are Nigerians who could name a newly emerged American rapper and argue that they surpass Burna Boy in stature.
Burna Boy
It’s a puzzling perspective.
They assert,
‘It’s improbable for someone who communicates like me
to share the same standing as an American artist.”
