A devastating incident has unfolded in Kubweye village, Kuria West subcounty, Kenya, as several individuals have lost their lives and eight others are currently fighting for their lives in critical condition.
The victims, including the person responsible for brewing the alcohol and a seller, consumed the toxic beverage on Tuesday night, unaware of the danger it held.
Shortly after drinking it, they began experiencing alarming symptoms such as impaired vision, breathing difficulties, and difficulty in speaking.
Prompt medical attention was sought, and the victims were rushed to hospitals in Mabera town.
The unfortunate reality was that four of them had already passed away upon arrival.
The remaining eight victims were in a critical condition, prompting their immediate transfer to Migori Referral Hospital for intensive care.
Cleti Kimaiyo, the police chief of Kuria West, has announced the initiation of investigations into the incident.
His primary focus is to determine the source of the poisoned alcohol, which claimed multiple lives and jeopardized the well-being of others.
The community in Kubweye village has expressed deep concern over the illicit brew issue in the area, urging the government to take decisive action against those involved in the production and sale of such dangerous substances. The aim is to eradicate this vice that has already caused tragic loss of life within the village and its surroundings.
