Meta introduces new tool for video calls: Meet your Meta Avatar
Meta, the parent company of Messenger and Instagram, has unveiled a novel feature designed for those who prefer not to appear on camera or may not feel camera-ready.
Users now have the option to participate in video calls using a Meta Avatar.
Compatible with Android and iOS, this feature offers “a third option between camera-off and camera-on,” allowing users to maintain a sense of presence during calls. The avatar mirrors the user’s movements but does not reveal any physical features.
Meta has been gradually integrating avatars into its VR platforms and games, resulting in the creation of over one billion avatars to date.
While most avatars are human, some embody animal personas, which means you might find yourself video chatting with a cartoon llama.
This is great news! I’m glad that they are finally adding this feature.
