Popular radio host Maina Kageni recently expressed his dissatisfaction with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for publicly shedding tears.
Maina stated that while it is acceptable for men to cry, doing so in public is not appropriate.

During a conversation on Classic 105, Maina shared his opinion that African men have become too soft and weak, emphasizing the need for them to hold their emotions and express them privately, such as in the bedroom or the toilet.
Maina stated,

African men should not cry in public.

They have become so soft and weak.
When a man cries and his wife cries too, who is the leader?
African men should control their emotions and wait to express them in private.
Your father cried a lot, but you never saw it.”
He further argued that African men are expected to exhibit strength and that there is something inherently wrong with crying in public.
Maina made a comparison between Kenyan men and Russian men, perceiving the latter as strong and less likely to display emotions publicly.

You are supposed to show strength to those around you. It is wrong for African men to cry in public.
Kenyan men are like Russian men, very strong. You cannot publicly shed tears. It shows great strength,”

Maina’s remarks were prompted by Governor Sakaja’s emotional moment during the launch of the Nairobi School Feeding Programme, where he was moved to tears while discussing the hardships faced by the children.
Governor Sakaja struggled to find the right words to convey his emotions and wiped away tears, expressing his empathy for the children and their pain.
