Starting today, Instagram is implementing “Teen Accounts” for users under 18, introducing privacy and safety features.
All teen accounts will be private by default, and minors will have limited interaction with strangers.
New features include Sleep Mode, restricting notifications from 10 PM to 7 AM, and content restrictions on Reels and the Explore page.
Teens can pick age-appropriate content topics, and parents can monitor messaging activity and set Sleep Mode.
While teens over 16 can adjust settings, younger teens need parental permission.
The feature is rolling out in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, with EU expansion planned for later.
Instagram also plans to enhance age verification using AI to detect underage users trying to bypass restrictions.
