Former ‘Machachari’ child actor Ian Nene (Almasi) recently sat down for an interview with Podcaster Shivani Pau.
Ian Nene who was born in Kenya but moved to the UK for higher education practices Vaishnavism (Vaishnava dharma). Internet sources explain that this is one of the major traditions within Hinduism along with Shaivism, Shaktism, and Smartism. It is also called Vishnuism, its followers are called Vaishnavas, and it considers Vishnu as the Supreme Lord.
He refers to himself as a Monk. He describes a Monk,
A person who has dedicated their time to introspection, focusing on the inner word, decides to cut themselves out from the conventional world and chooses to fucus within, focus on controlling the mind, the self, regulating our body, eating etc.

Speaking to Shivani, he explained how his mother’s cancer diagnosis made him question his spirituality, human general existence, beliefs and made him seek clarity on many aspects of his life.

Finding out that his mam had cancer, he got into a depressive state and immediately thought that his mam was going to die.
I started getting high to numb my feelings, but also I started questioning God, asking him if he truly exists, why allow bad things to happen to good people”

My mam serves a lot of people, why is she the one getting cancer?

His mother was going through chemotherapy but she was happy and enthusiastic, he wanted to find out where that peace came from. Noticing that a friend looked peaceful made him question where the peace was coming from as well.
This is how he was introduced to the temple by a friend. In his quest for spiritual knowledge, he became a regular in the temple.
He learnt a lot, after a while he became a vegetarian too.
am going to become a vegetarian because why would I eat something that has consciousness too?

He spent more than six months in the temple.
He is now a speaker and a Monk.
He speaks about Karma, death and how everybody can find their own purpose.
