Safaricom has introduced a new feature called Niokolee, enabling customers to request airtime from their friends and family.
The service utilizes a USSD code and is available for both PrePay and PostPay subscribers.
Similar to Safaricom’s ‘Please Call Me’ feature, which prompts contacts to make a call, Niokolee allows users to request airtime ranging from Ksh.10 to Ksh.100 from their loved ones.
To send a Niokolee request, users need to dial *444#, select “Niokolee,” choose “Request Kredo,” enter the Safaricom number from which they want to request credit, and select the desired amount of airtime.
The recipient then has the option to accept or decline the request.
To accept a Niokolee request, users receive a prompt from 44444 asking them to either “Accept” or “Decline” the request.
If accepted, the requested amount is deducted from the user’s airtime account.
The Niokolee menu also includes a “Share Kredo” option, enabling Safaricom customers to share airtime with each other without the need for a request.
However, it’s important to note that Share Kredo gifts have fixed amounts and expiration durations, unlike the existing Sambaza feature where users can enter any amount, and the airtime doesn’t expire.
