journey to reintegrate into society after being released from prison,
having been convicted of a serious crime.
Upon his release, Geoffrey is sent back to the village where he grew up and must confront the painful memories of his past.
Shimoni, has been well-received at various film festivals despite its dark themes and exploration of ethical complexities.
The movie premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and has since had successful screenings at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and Fespaco, where Wamai was awarded the festival’s third prize, the Bronze Stallion.
Shimoni is set to make its debut in the United States at the AFI’s New African Film Festival this upcoming weekend.
