Eric Omondi, a comedian who has recently turned to activism, was arrested in Kisumu while leading university students in peaceful protests.
The demonstration, which took place on Jomo Kenyatta streets, was meant to draw attention to the high cost of living, increased fees, and unemployment.
Footage shared showed Omondi and his supporters blocking the road and singing protest songs.
The comedian even directed his young supporters to place mattresses on the road and sleep on them as a symbol of their frustration.
This is not the first time that Omondi has run afoul of the authorities due to his activism. Just two weeks ago, he was arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District while leading a similar protest against the high cost of living.
