From our research, David Makuyu, the former husband of accomplished TV personality Cynthia Nyamai, opened up about the reasons behind their divorce in an interview with Jamila Mbugua on K24 – years ago shedding light on her alleged cheating escapades.
Makuyu and Cynthia married in 2007 when he was 31, after a year and half of dating, and they parted ways three years later.
Cynthia Nyamai and David Makuyu divorced in 2010 and David remarried in 2015.
The divorce-related matters gained public attention in 2013 when Cynthia was featured on the cover of True Love magazine.
In the feature, she claimed that her marriage fell apart because of Makuyu’s cruelty and infidelity.
However, just a month later, Makuyu countered these allegations during an appearance on K24’s Faraja TV show.
He firmly contradicted Cynthia’s statements, asserting that it was, in fact, the former KTN news anchor who had engaged in infidelity with multiple men during their marriage.

Makuyu provided insight into their relationship and separation, countering Nyamai’s claims that he was a violent individual prone to mistreating women.
The couple’s union initially garnered attention when Cynthia transitioned from signing off her TV reports (KTN at the time) with the surname “Makuyu” to reverting to “Nyamai.”
Speculation surrounding their marriage remained shrouded in mystery until Cynthia featured on True Love magazine where she discussed the failure of their marriage.
During an interview with K24’s Jamila Mbugua on the show “Faraja,” – years ago – Makuyu candidly shared his perspective on their relationship’s breakdown after merely two years of marriage.
Their story began six years prior when a mutual friend introduced him to Cynthia.
After a year and a half of dating, they tied the knot.
At the time, Makuyu was 31 years old, and although he had initial reservations a week before the wedding, he dismissed them as typical pre-wedding jitters.
Cynthia, known for her role as a Godly woman actively involved in the choir and displaying religious devotion, exhibited qualities that Makuyu initially valued.
However, he admitted that placing excessive trust in her was a significant mistake on his part, stating,
I am naturally a trusting individual,”
which he believed ultimately led to their downfall.
Throughout their courtship, there were noticeable warning signs that Makuyu struggled to acknowledge or accept.
Despite sensing underlying issues, he chose to proceed.
He recalled,
I knew there was something very wrong, it was a buildup of things, people from her campus and church also came to ask me if I really wanted to get married to her.”
These individuals informed Makuyu about Cynthia’s past relationships with affluent men that were short-lived.
Cynthia acknowledged her history of relationships with wealthy individuals but assured Makuyu that her past was behind her.
This reassurance, combined with three months of marriage, led him to notice that their relationship was not unfolding as expected.
He became increasingly uncomfortable with the attention Cynthia paid to a male colleague, a commercial director at her workplace, who frequently surfaced in her conversations, he told Jamila during the interview.

Makuyu described instances where people approached him, alleging they had seen Cynthia with other men at various social establishments.
However, lacking substantial evidence, he was unable to take immediate action.
The revelation came two years later when Makuyu finally accessed Cynthia’s phone messages.
Although she usually kept her phone close, Makuyu found a chance to browse through her messages while she was away on assignment.
The text messages between Cynthia and another individual, who was at a hotel outside Nairobi, were devastating for Makuyu.
Instead of acting impulsively, he chose to confront the issue calmly after his emotions settled.
When questioned about his restraint despite possessing such evidence, Makuyu expressed the internal conflict one experiences when faced with unsettling truths.
Despite ongoing discussions about Cynthia’s interactions with other men and Makuyu’s efforts to salvage their marriage, repeated instances of infidelity eroded his trust.

Eventually, Cynthia confessed to her unfaithfulness, prompting them to seek counseling. However, Makuyu decided to end the marriage midway through the counseling process.
Amidst the counseling sessions, Makuyu discovered further evidence of infidelity involving a lawyer.
This revelation, along with corroborating evidence from others willing to testify, led him to file for legal separation only two years into their marriage.
Consequently, the relationship between Cynthia Makuyu and David Makuyu came to an end.
Contrary to Cynthia’s description of him as a violent man in her interview with a local magazine, Makuyu vehemently denies ever cheating on his wife.
He offers advice to those considering marriage, encouraging them to wait for the right partner to come into their lives rather than actively seeking a spouse.
