Nominated senator Crystal Asige is suing Sauti Sol for breaching her contract. At the same time, Asige is also urging the court to order Sauti Sol to compensate her. She is also seeking orders that they deliver all licensing information on the songs she is aggrieved about.
Sauti Sol featured the visually impaired artist in Extravaganza beside Bensoul, Nviiri the Storyteller and Kaskazini. She has also been featured in Lenga, favorite & Ukiwa Mbali.
Crystal wants the four members of Sol Generation, namely, Bien-Aime Baraza, Polycarp Otieno, Willis Chimano and Delvin Mudigi plus their record label, to disclose how much they have received from the singles.
While under the first defendant’s record label (Sol Generation) the plaintiff composed and performed on the widely known recordings ‘Extravangaza’ and ‘Ukiwa Mbali’ together with the second and fifth defendants, and her then label mates professionally known as Bensoul, Nviiri The Story Teller and the group Kaskazini in 2019 and her contribution was credited as such,”
Asige says in court papers filed by Mwakireti and Asige Advocates.
Asige also performed and arranged vocals for Bensouls’ Favorite song in 2019.
Lenga was her own composition and sound recording which was released on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Kenya Facebook platform without her consent – she was reliably informed that Sol Generation received approximately Sh5 million for the use of the song.
In 2019, Asige disclosed that she was called to a meeting and was let go from Sol Generation. This was after Bien asked her to sign a full contract and join the music label. Bien, Sol Generation manager Natasha Qubu & Moriasi Omambia had called the meeting.
