During the re-launch of the Women Enterprise Fund and Second Product of the Hustler Fund at KICC, President William Ruto announced that his administration is working towards reducing the prices of cooking gas across the country.
He stated that by June 2023, the cost of a 6 kg gas cylinder will be lowered to either Sh300 or Sh500.
According to President William Ruto, his administration will allocate funds to lower the cost of cooking gas, eliminate taxes, and ensure that women can cook without worrying about their health.
President William Ruto expressed concern over the health risks that 70 percent of women in the country face due to cooking with firewood. He pledged to remove taxes on cooking gas as part of his plan to eliminate the use of wood fuel.
Ruto directed Energy CS Davis Chirchir to take action and ensure the plan is implemented.
So Waziri you have the marching orders and you know what you must do so that in three years every household in Kenya has a subsidised cooking gas,”
President Ruto
According to the President, the reduction in the cost of gas will bring health benefits to Kenyans and help restore the environment by reducing the number of trees cut down for firewood and charcoal.
