Kuna Kuna artist Brandy Maina has faced criticism after her tweet about not collaborating with anyone except for five select artists for the rest of the year went viral.
In response, Brandy took to her Instagram stories to explain her statement and pointed out that those who were trolling her were not likely artists and did not understand the complexities of her profession.
She further emphasized that there is a time and place for everything and that she stands by her decision.

I can tell the people pressed about my tweet are not artists because they clearly don’t get the back end of it, there is time for everything,”

Brandy Maina, explained that she had to prioritize her solo projects over collaborations with other artists. She stated that she had been collaborating with others for a while and had not dedicated enough time to her own work. According to Brandy, promoting a collaboration takes time, money, and effort, which she wants to use to focus on her EP for the rest of the year.
Earlier in the day, Brandy had announced that she would not collaborate with anyone except for a select few artists. She named Nyashinski, Kinoti, Watendawili, Femi One, and Fathermoh as the only artists she would collaborate with for the rest of the year. Brandy also requested not to be included in any interviews that do not involve these artists.
