Thousands Gather to Bid Farewell to Actress Winnie ‘Dida’ Bwire in Emotional Ceremony
Kenyan actress Winnie ‘Dida’ Bwire, best known for her role as ‘Dida’ in the popular Citizen TV drama series Sultana, was laid to rest on Saturday, September 14th, at her rural home in Matungu, Kakamega County.
Bwire passed away on September 5th while receiving treatment in Turkey after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Her passing marked the end of a remarkable career that touched the hearts of many Kenyans.
Bwire’s artistic journey began at a young age, and she quickly became a prominent figure in the Kenyan entertainment industry.
Starting with poems and plays at just six years old, she found her way to the stage and screen.
Her first professional role came in 2014 with the Kenyan project Penzi, which paved the way for more significant roles in television and theater.
She went on to star in several productions, including Tehanini Kisasa, Kalimani Dynasty, and her breakthrough role in Sultana.
Her character, ‘Dida,’ was loved by many viewers, establishing her as a household name.
Bwire’s family, friends, and fans described her as a fighter, both on and off the screen.
Her battle with cancer was met with courage, even as she sought treatment abroad. She regularly shared updates about her journey.
The ceremony was attended by several of her colleagues from Jiffy Pictures, the production house responsible for Sultana, where Bwire had worked closely with their team.
Leading the group was producer and media personality Lulu Hassan, who delivered a heartfelt eulogy, praising Bwire’s immense talent and dedication to her craft.
