A man named Peter Gitonga, aged 54, passed away in a matatu in the Kamukunji area of Nairobi due to a suspected epileptic episode.
Gitonga had just finished work with his colleagues and was on his way to Umoja when the incident occurred on Saturday evening.
Witnesses reported that he yawned, stretched, fell asleep and never woke up again.
Upon being notified of the situation, the driver immediately headed to the police station where officers confirmed Gitonga’s death.
The body was moved to the mortuary for further investigation.
According to officials, epilepsy can result in fatality if not managed properly.
The number of deaths due to epilepsy varies depending on several factors, including the severity of the condition, the age and health of the person, and the effectiveness of treatment.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), epilepsy is responsible for approximately 125,000 deaths each year worldwide.
